A market that survived everything
The market has closed only twice in its history, in the winter of 1945 and for six weeks in 2020. Today 64 traders sell vegetables, cheese, fish and flowers, and about a third of them come from farms within 30 kilometres of the city.
Shade in summer, shelter in winter
The new roof covers 1,400 square metres and rests on 28 larch columns. Rainwater from the roof goes into a cistern that supplies the fountain and the traders’ washing points. Work runs from January to March, when the market moves to the square in front of the town hall.
The anniversary weekend
On 31 October the market stays open until 8 pm, with music from the brass band of the volunteer fire brigade and a long table where traders cook with what they sell.
