How we choose stoneware for an everyday mug

Weight first

A good mug feels a little heavier than it looks. Stoneware fired at 1,240 °C is dense enough to keep coffee warm for a few minutes longer, and thick enough at the rim that it never feels sharp.

A glaze that ages well

We chose a sand glaze over white. Small marks from spoons and years of washing blend in instead of standing out, and every batch comes out of the kiln a shade different.

Made close to home

Our mugs are thrown and fired by a family workshop two hours from Berlin. Short distances mean fewer breakages in transport and a potter we can call when a batch looks off.
